Hawaii- Day 3

Just another day in paradise...here are our highlights from Day 3:

  • This morning we started our day with a walk to 'Shipwreck beach' located next to the beautiful Grand Hyatt resort (the hotel right next to our condo), but then decided that we would rather sit on a hammock next to the Hyatt's pool than on the sandy beach. Andy listened to a lecture from his class that he has to write a paper on sometime today, and I read a book- a great morning. Here is a picture of Andy relaxing on the hammock and then a picture of the beautiful sand bottom pool that I swam in to take a break from reading.

  • Walking back along the beach to our condo we saw a monk seal resting on the beach. At first we thought it might be dead, but it was breathing and we are told that the monk seals often rest on the beaches of this side of the island.

  • We took a drive to Spouting Horn, the "old faithful" of Kauai. It was pretty cool, the water comes in and shoots straight up.
  • This afternoon we went tubing down the old ditches of a sugar plantation. We saw some beautiful sights on the way up, and we had a good time tubing down. 80% of the tube ride was through tunnels, which was cool. It definitely wasn't very much of a thrill ride, pretty slow and relaxing, but still fun.

The mountain in back of us, Wai'ale'ale, is the rainiest place in the world. On average it rains 350 days a year and averages 430 inches a year. You can see that the top of it is covered in clouds- apparantly this is how it always looks.
  • At the end of our tube ride we went to this swimming hole that had a picnic area for dinner. I loved the little waterfalls at the back, you could sit on the rocks around them.

  • On our way back to our condo tonight we got our first shave ice of our trip- yummy!!

Looks like paradise alright! I can't believe all the fun things you are doing! Is it nice not having to sleep in your car?!

I am so jealous!! We love Hawaii (it helps that that's where we decided to get married, right on the North Shore by Turtle Bay). There is a soft spot for us all along the north Shore, and Hukilau Cafe is one of Scott SLivka's favorite places for breakfast. Plus, you got to go without your kids - what a ball, I'll keep checking up to live vicariously through you.

Oh, Matt wants to add acomment too, we don't know how close you are to the North Shore, but if you are close we saw a pod of dolphins swimming around Waimea Bay about 7:00 in the morning and Matt said it was great snorkeling over by tghe cliff jumpers at the bay. It looks like your trip is pretty packed and you aren't hurting for fun things to do, but thought we'd pass it on.

Kimmi, I am so jealous. Your pictures are gorgeous. What fun. Someday I will get to go back to Hawaii with Chris (he's never been). Did youplan all of your activities or did a travel agent? Either way, I'm impressed with all the fun things you're doing. Have a blast :)
